Island 2 Day 2

It was a challenge to get work done over the weekend, wasn’t it? Well, each member needs an assigned role. You have already gathered your supplies, explored the island, and created a map. Now you need to make plans for how to survive.

Section [06] Members

Look at the member page again, and add a third column to the member table that will be called “roles.” You should decide based on survival IQ and quality of contributions who will do what. You must also nominate and elect a leader. But first, write job descriptions for each role. Figure out how you will do this so it is fair for the rest of the sections. Remember, every member must still contribute to the wiki in order to get a grade.

Some of the roles you NEED to consider are:  

• Leader (one per island): the leader will not only have the final say, but he or she will also make sure every member is doing their part and contributing to their project. A leader’s main job will be to leave comments for the other groups. [Other tasks?] (emergencies
• Hunter gatherers: [Are responsible for aquiring food and water ] (They should build a stockpile incase of drought)
• Builders/maintainers of shelters: [They decide who lives where people will live and how the houses will be] (Should take into account all weather and possible invasions)
• Water and firewood gatherers: [Be responsible for gathering wood and coordinating with hunter gatherers to find water] (Be sure that there is enough wood to last a long)
• Defense Leader should be in charge of attacking other inhabitants and should help defend the village incase of attack.  He should also help flag down planes/rescuers.  Incase of attack he should direct people as well as prepare a potential counter attack

Last tip: it would be useful if the members of the same section are in a similar role, that way you can complete a task together. The leader can be from any section and contribute to their particular group as he or she wishes.

Section [09] Members

First, do you approve of the leader nominated and chosen by the previous group?

If not, nominate a new leader:

You now have been assigned roles, but for today, you are also the plan builders. You must come up with a plan of action for the following situations:

Medical emergency: [you must specify what is in your first aid kit on Day 1]

For most medical emergencies on the island, our first aid kit will be used. If someone is infected from a cut we will use the gause and antiseptic. We have numerous medications for bites ex bug or snake.  For pain and aches we have Ibuprofin and Aspirin.  For broken legs we will make a brace with wood found in the forest.  If the others attack we have materials in the medical kit to adress our injuries that they may inflict.

Hunting/Gathering Techniques:

Make weapons with the resources we have on the island for hunting animals.  People need to be responsible for getting water in the river to drink and cook with.  We could use the lighter/ matches to make fire and cook.  People also need to be responsible for getting food from the forest from trees and bushes. 

Possible Mutiny:

Any members of the island that attempt to overthrow the leader or the entire tribe will be put to death or sent into the mountains to live.  Mutiny will not be tolerated for any reason.  Anyone who makes an attempt to dismantle the leader will be hung from a palm tree by rope.  If it is a minor attempt to overthrow the leader than the person will be sent into the mountains for a week or more until they do not have any want to cause a mutiny.

Attempts to get rescued:

There are numerous ways we could be rescued and 3 of our 6 tools play a key role in getting us rescued. We could use the mirror to reflect sunlight on people to get their attention. We could use the matches/lighter to start a fire, once we have a fire going, attention would be drawn from the smoke. To get even more attention, we could use the rope to construct figures on trees.

Tip:  Include how you will use the six tools and your island’s natural resources (as shown in the introduction page) to solve these problems.

Section [04] Members

First, do you approve of the leader nominated and chosen by the previous group?

If not, nominate a new leader:

We do not approve of the current leader, the person we would like in place of him would be Stephanie Hurruza. 

You now have been assigned roles, but for today, you are contributing to plans surrounding shelter.

• Decide where your shelter will be built (based on the map created by your group; consider how long it takes to get to places and also what kind of problems you might encounter from your island).
• Create a visual model of what your shelter/s looks like.

       For our shelters we will utilize our natural reasources.  First, we will sharpen rocks from the stream using other rocks and tying them to sticks to make pic axes.  Then we will use rope and the pic axes to cut down the palm trees.  The leaves from the palm trees will be stuck together using silt from the river to make roofs for the shelter.  The trunks of the palm trees will act as supports for the mud walls.  The huts will be about five feet tall with a four feet tall entrance.  The whole structure will be seven feet tall.  The huts will be cone shaped.  A separate hut with the hole at the top will be set aside for cooking, however large roasts will be held outside.  The huts are primarily for bad weather conditions and for sleeping.  They can’t really protect against the wild boars.  There will be multiple shelters.  Each hut will hold four people and we will build a totaly of three huts. We have decided to locate our village on the north end of the island, away from the other inhabitants, who live in the south, but still near the beach and ocean, and about a 5 minute walk to the fresh water stream and forest.
